Spouse, Civil Partner & Fiancé(e) Visas
If you’re married to, in a civil partnership with, or engaged to someone who is a British citizen or has settled status in the UK, this visa lets you live in the UK with your partner. A Fiancé(e) visa is specifically for those who intend to marry or enter into a civil partnership after arriving in the UK, then switch to a partner visa.
Who Can Apply?
- Your partner is settled in the UK or is a British citizen.
- Your relationship is genuine and ongoing — this could include being married, in a civil partnership, engaged, or in a long-term partnership.
- You both intend to live together in the UK.
- You can show you meet financial, English language, and accommodation requirements.
What You’ll Be Able to Do
- Live in the UK with your partner.
- Work and/or study while in the UK once your visa is granted (depending on visa type).
- If using a Fiancé(e) visa, marry or form a civil partnership in the UK and apply to switch to a partner visa.
- Over time, many qualify to apply for permanent residence (Indefinite Leave to Remain) and even British citizenship, assuming other conditions are met.
It usually lasts for 6 months, during which you must marry or form a civil partnership. Afterwards, you can apply to switch to a partner visa.
Generally, your UK partner must earn a minimum annual income (currently £18,600) or have savings to support you, though specific rules may vary depending on children and circumstances.
